Hi, please excuse my lack of Dutch but I was hoping people could advise on the settlement of a Dutch will.

Basically, the situation is that a relative passed away leaving an inheritance to the existing family members who all live outside Netherlands. However, the executor of the will is a friend of the deceased and not family.

The settlement of the will is taking much longer than expected and it's not clear why.

Obviously, there were various issues to sort out with the estate such as selling a property and declaring everything for tax purposes, which take time, but we feel that enough time has passed and don't understand the delay.

Maybe this is a bit like asking 'How long is a piece of string?' but it'd be helpful to know what the 'norm' is in Netherlands for situations like this? How long does it usually take for the process to be completed?

Danke.

How long does it take for the Dutch authorities to grant probate after they have received the paperwork?

Is the process delayed if the heir is a foreigner?
